On the Southwestern Railway line between London’s Waterloo station and much of Surrey—Woking, Guildford, Shepperton, etc.—sits a one-story, red-brick building, one that’s covered in layers of graffiti, then painted over, again and again.

The graffiti always prevails.

If you’re heading into London, you’ll see it roughly 30 seconds after Earlsfield. It’ll be gone in a split second, so look alive. If, like me, you take that same train pretty regularly, you might start reading the graffiti itself, noticing the ebb and flow of the messages, keeping track of their updates.

In fact, you might notice that someone’s taken the time to write “LAGER” in two-foot-tall, cartoonishly blue and green letters. If, like me, you’re really into that particular style, you might just end up spending much of an otherwise uneventful journey fantasizing about a cold pint of Helles.
