This is Steve. You might remember him from my In Residence story last year. I wouldn't describe him as a particularly festive man in his day-to-day life, but he's certainly helped the Australian beer industry sparkle over the years. As I took this shot, Steve and his partners gave speeches in honor of the 10th birthday of their bar, The Local Taphouse here in Melbourne.
Ten years is a long time in the Australian beer world. When The Local Taphouse opened, no other watering hole in Melbourne could be described as a "craft" beer bar. They were the first to commit to it fully. Steve says that, back then, small brewers were surprised to be contacted by a bar that wanted their beer. It's amazing how much things have changed in such a short time. And how, after a whole decade, The Local Taphouse still has plenty of sparkle.
