Simon Pearce’s second “Meet the Maker” beer dinner showcased a Vermont favorite, Lawson’s Finest Liquids. Following nearly a decade of success, it was inspiring to hear founder Sean Lawson speak with such humility about his beer. He shared heartfelt praise for the success of New England peers Treehouse and Trillium, excitedly telling us about seeking out their stuff:

“Any I can get my hands on. I love those beers!”

Throughout dinner, Lawson and I chatted at our table about his new 30-barrel brewery, taproom, and retail shop currently under construction in Waitsfield, VT. The expansion comes with a laundry list of upgrades. Capacity to brew a greater variety of Lawson’s beers year round. A dozen tap handles. Direct distribution to customers. And the positive economic impact brewery tourism will have for the community.

Knowing the popularity of his beers, I asked Lawson if he anticipates the kind of traffic some of those other New England breweries are known for.

“Well, we have to see," he said, "but we’re trying to prepare for that.”
